Work out the total cost

Most broadband and TV deals are 18 or 24-month contracts. Add up what you'll pay over the whole term, including any setup fee and the yearly price rises, and compare that rather than the first month's price. Under Ofcom rules, those price rises now have to be shown in pounds and pence when you sign up.

Switching is simpler than it used to be

Since September 2024, Ofcom's One Touch Switch process means your new broadband provider arranges the switch, even if it uses a different network from your old one. If you're still in contract, check your current provider's exit fees first. Some providers offer to cover part of them for new customers.

Existing customers rarely see the same headline offers, but it can still be worth asking your provider what they'll offer you to stay.
