Gym memberships

Gyms often promote offers over Black Friday ahead of the January rush. Before you join, check the minimum term, any joining fee, and how much notice you need to give to cancel, so a cheap first month doesn't commit you to a full year you won't use.

Trainers and kit

Discounts on trainers are often limited to selected colours and sizes. If you need a particular size, it's worth checking stock early. For running shoes, buying a model you already know fits is safer online than trying a new one.

For supplements, compare the price per kilogram or per serving rather than the headline percentage, since some brands run codes for much of the year.
