Black Friday Gifts deals

Experience days and memberships

• Check how long an experience voucher is valid for, and whether it can be extended or exchanged if the person can't use it in time.
• Popular experiences book up, especially at weekends and in summer. Look at availability for the activity before you buy, not just the price.
• Gift memberships, such as English Heritage, usually start when they're activated or on a date you choose, so a membership bought on Black Friday can still start at Christmas.

Gift cards: a word of caution

If a retailer goes into administration, its gift cards can become worthless, or only partly usable. For a large amount, a gift from a well-established retailer, or the present itself, is safer than a card.

For personalised gifts, order early: they're made to order, and personalised items usually can't be returned unless they're faulty.
