How Apple does Black Friday

Apple rarely cuts its own prices. Instead, buying selected products during its event comes with an Apple gift card to spend later, worth up to £200 last year: £20 with AirPods 4, £80 with an iPad Air, and the top value with a MacBook Pro.

Gift card or discount?

A gift card is only worth its full value if you'll spend it at Apple anyway, on an accessory, an app subscription or another device. Otherwise, a straight discount elsewhere is usually better: other retailers often sell AirPods, iPads and Apple Watches for well below Apple's own price over Black Friday.

Compare Apple's price minus the gift card with retailers such as Currys, Argos and Amazon before you buy.
